Seven FatFs vulnerabilities put millions of embedded devices at risk

Colleagues, I’d like to highlight an important cybersecurity issue.
runZero disclosed seven vulnerabilities in FatFs, a file system library used in security cameras, drones, industrial controllers, crypto wallets, and other embedded devices.
The main risk is physical access via USB, an SD card, or even a firmware update. In some cases, this can lead to memory corruption, crashes, or code execution.
A concern remains that some issues still lack an upstream fix, leaving patching to device vendors.
Why it matters: embedded systems often lack standard protections, so auditing wrapper code, file sizes, and filenames is critical.
How do you secure such devices in your environment?
