Amazon raises Echo, Kindle and Fire TV prices as memory costs climb

Amazon has increased prices across its Fire TV, Echo, Kindle and Eero hardware lines, with some products rising by as much as 60%. The most striking example is the Echo Dot: Amazon’s entry-level smart speaker went from $49.99 to $79.99 overnight, a 60% jump.

Amazon confirmed that the changes followed a rise in memory and storage component costs. The company said it had absorbed those increases for as long as it could before recently adjusting prices across its product portfolio. It also said customers would continue to see occasional promotions over the next year.

Component pressure reaches consumer devices

The increases underline how the global memory shortage is extending beyond chips and data-centre infrastructure into mainstream consumer hardware. Demand connected to the AI boom has pushed up memory costs, making devices that rely on those components more expensive to produce.

For buyers, the impact is visible not only in premium products but in Amazon’s lower-cost devices. The Echo Dot increase shows how quickly a component-cost change can alter the economics of an established entry-level product. Price-tracking service CamelCamelCamel shows that its price had previously remained considerably lower.

Amazon joins a broader pricing response

Amazon is not alone in responding to the component environment. Apple has also raised prices and introduced a device leasing programme intended to let customers spread payments over time. The broader market backdrop connects with Amazon device and Alexa+ plans as Amazon develops its device and Alexa+ plans amid changing hardware economics.

The memory shortage is expected to continue through 2027, with prices potentially peaking and stabilising in 2028. That timeframe leaves hardware vendors and customers operating with continued uncertainty over component availability and device pricing.

What procurement teams should watch

Businesses buying Amazon hardware for meeting rooms, smart-office deployments, connectivity or employee use should review refresh plans against current rather than historical list prices. Tracking promotions, validating product alternatives and allowing for higher device costs in near-term budgets can help teams manage purchases while component pricing remains unsettled.
