Anthropic reportedly agrees $10 billion compute deal with Volta

Anthropic has reportedly agreed to purchase $10 billion in cloud computing capacity from AI cloud startup Volta over six years. Bloomberg reported the arrangement, citing anonymous sources familiar with the deal, while TechCrunch contacted Anthropic for further information.
The capacity is intended to support Anthropic, the maker of Claude, as it expands the infrastructure available for its AI workloads. Volta was founded earlier in 2026 and had spoken publicly about an agreement with an AI laboratory without identifying the customer.
A 133-megawatt facility in Norway
Volta will work with crypto-mining company Bitdeer to develop the data center that provides the contracted compute. The facility will be located in Norway and is expected to deliver 133 megawatts of capacity.
The data center will be powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems, the chipmaker's latest AI architecture named in the report. Volta is also a member of Nvidia's Cloud Partner program, a group of AI cloud providers that operate Nvidia GPUs in their data centers.
These details make the agreement more than a conventional cloud purchase. It ties the planned capacity to a specific facility, development partner and hardware architecture, while setting a six-year term for delivery to Anthropic.
Anthropic broadens its compute supply
The reported Volta agreement follows several months in which Anthropic has moved aggressively to increase compute capacity amid competition between AI companies. The company has also recently announced compute arrangements with SpaceX and Amazon.
The relationship with Amazon already extends beyond a routine supplier contract: Amazon investment and Anthropic's AWS spending commitment provides relevant context for the scale of Anthropic's infrastructure commitments and its strategy for securing AI capacity.
For businesses buying or building AI services, the reported deal illustrates which variables now shape large infrastructure commitments: duration, available power, geographic location, delivery partners and the selected accelerator road map.
