Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 add Audio Intelligence

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 add Audio Intelligence

Apple introduces AI conversation tools for its new watches

Apple unveiled Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 at its iPhone launch event in Cupertino, adding software-led Audio Intelligence features alongside updated health sensing. Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399, while Apple Watch Ultra 4 is priced at $499.

The headline addition is Live Rewind. A double press of the Digital Crown displays a text snippet covering the previous 15 seconds of a conversation. Users can ask Siri about the transcript or save it in the new Siri app for later reference.

Apple is also adding Siri Recap, which is intended to capture high-level takeaways from conversations such as a team meeting or a parent-teacher conference. When enabled, ambient listening allows Apple Intelligence to generate a title and key points in the new Siri app after a conversation.

Apple says these Audio Intelligence capabilities do not create or store audio recordings. The approach builds on the company’s wider AI direction, including WWDC 2026 Siri and Apple Intelligence announcements, while applying Apple Intelligence to short conversational context on a wrist-worn device.

Accessibility and health sensing updates

A new Sound Recognition capability is designed for people who are hard of hearing. It can listen for sirens, alarms, doorbells and a baby crying, among other sounds.

Both models receive a new health-sensing system. Apple says the electrode surface area has increased to improve skin contact for ECG readings. Redesigned photodiodes are arranged in a ring to capture light more efficiently, while more power-efficient green LEDs are intended to maintain accurate heart-rate measurements during movement.

The watches now collect background heart-rate readings every five seconds throughout the day, including while the wearer is moving. Apple describes this as 60 times more frequent than before and says the higher-frequency continuous data is an important health indicator.

New daily health summaries

Apple is also introducing readiness scores that combine recent activity, vitals and sleep into a morning assessment of how prepared a user’s body is for the day. Health Age compares key metrics with a person’s actual age using Watch data, including VO2 max and sleep.

For businesses assessing wearable use, the practical implication is to distinguish the new transcript-based recall and health summaries from conventional audio recording workflows, then determine whether the available on-device context fits their privacy and follow-up needs.
