OpenAI expands ChatGPT Ads to 89 countries

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Ads to 26 additional countries, bringing the advertising product to 89 countries worldwide. The company said that more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since ads launched just over eight months ago.
The rollout follows recent launches in Europe, Southeast Asia and Taiwan. OpenAI said ChatGPT is used by more than 1.2 billion people each week to explore ideas, compare options and make decisions, positioning the service as a setting for product and service discovery.
New markets across four regions
Following launches in Mexico and Brazil, ChatGPT Ads is becoming available in 14 more Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru. OpenAI is also adding markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, naming Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan among them.
The geographic expansion continues the path set by ChatGPT Ads expansion across Europe as OpenAI broadens access to its conversational advertising product beyond Europe. Advertisers in the newly supported countries can access ChatGPT Ads through technology partners or through self-service access in Ads Manager.
OpenAI describes the product as a way for local businesses, regional brands and international companies to introduce offerings while people are evaluating choices. In its example, a person planning meals for a first marathon may refine suggestions by dietary preference and available cooking time, with a relevant grocery-delivery ad appearing during that process.
Rules for ads and subscriptions
Ads will appear only on ChatGPT Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions will remain free of advertising. OpenAI said advertising helps support free and low-cost access to ChatGPT around the world.
The company also reiterated its advertising principles. It said conversations are kept private from advertisers, customer data is not sold, ads are clearly labelled and separate from ChatGPT answers, and advertising does not influence those answers.
More formats and measurement planned
OpenAI said its next phase will include additional advertising formats, objectives, buying options and measurement capabilities. It is also exploring more native ways for businesses to interact with consumers in ChatGPT.
For businesses, the immediate implication is to determine whether conversational exploration matches the points at which their customers compare options, while treating plan eligibility, privacy boundaries and the available buying route as core requirements for any test.
