OpenAI rolls out Intelligent UI in ChatGPT alongside GPT-6
OpenAI is rolling out Intelligent UI, a more visual ChatGPT interface, alongside its new GPT-6 model. The feature introduces interactive elements into conversations, including tappable buttons, tailored calculators, interactive charts, editable graphs and dynamically generated diagrams.
Intelligent UI is launching globally for ChatGPT Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise users. OpenAI said Free and Go users will receive access the following day. Users will also be able to reduce the amount of visual material in replies if they prefer a less graphic-heavy experience.
From text responses to interactive explanations
OpenAI described the change as an effort to make complex subjects easier to learn. Rather than returning only prose or static illustrations, ChatGPT can create visual tools that users can manipulate directly within a conversation.
During a demonstration for journalists, the company showed ChatGPT responding to a request to explore how an airplane wing generates lift. The chatbot produced diagrams intended to illustrate the dynamics involved in flight. Other examples included recipe visuals, a bicycle-mechanics diagram, a map for a multi-day hiking trip and a personal savings calculator.
Aarush Selvan, a product manager at OpenAI, said ChatGPT has predominantly been text-based, but argued that useful answers for tasks such as recipe planning, trip planning and learning are not always limited to text. The new interface is intended to generate an appropriate visual format in response to the task being discussed.
What the change means for ChatGPT users
The release extends ChatGPT beyond an interface that primarily presents written answers. In particular, task-specific calculators and editable charts could let users inspect or adjust an answer rather than treating it as a fixed response. That direction also complements ChatGPT application platform expansion as ChatGPT expands into a platform for launching applications and handling more interactive tasks.
OpenAI has not said that Intelligent UI will replace text-first interactions. Its customization setting indicates that users can decide how prominent visual responses should be, preserving the option of conventional conversational output.
Practical implications for organisations
Teams using eligible ChatGPT plans can assess Intelligent UI in workflows where an interactive representation may be more useful than a written explanation alone, such as learning, itinerary planning or simple financial scenarios. They should also test the visual setting with their existing processes, since the product allows users to scale visuals back when a text-focused response is more appropriate.
