Anthropic expands Claude for Startups with Team access and API credits

Anthropic has expanded its Claude for Startups programme, offering qualifying companies a free year of Claude Team, up to five premium seats, and $1,000 in API credits for building with its AI models. The company announced the revised programme at its SF Tech Week event.

Participants will also gain access to Claude Marketplace, where they can build plugins for the service, and may book virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team. Applications are available through the Claude for Startups programme page.

What the startup package includes

Claude Team is Anthropic’s paid plan for groups. Under the programme, eligible startups can use as many as five premium seats without charge for one year, alongside the API credit allocation intended for product development using Claude.

The programme combines that access with routes to technical engagement. Claude Marketplace gives participating companies a way to build plugins, while virtual office hours offer contact with Anthropic’s Applied AI team. Anthropic said it created the programme because it expects AI’s benefits to reach most people through companies building on top of models rather than through the models alone.

Eligibility and product-building context

Companies qualify if they were founded during the last five years or received funding within the last two years. The criteria make the offer available both to newly established businesses and to somewhat older ventures that have recently secured backing.

The expansion places startup support alongside Anthropic’s broader efforts to make Claude useful in specialised professional workflows. For legal teams, Claude plugins and integrations for law firms illustrates the company’s focus on plugins and integrations for law firms, while the startup programme opens Marketplace development to qualifying companies across a wider range of use cases.

What founders should assess

The offer lowers the immediate cost of testing team access and API-based Claude features, but it does not prescribe a particular product or deployment. Startups can use the programme’s components differently: collaborative seats can support internal work, API credits can support an application build, and Marketplace access can support plugin development.

A practical business implication is to define a bounded prototype and the intended role of Claude before applying, then use the credits, seats and office hours to assess whether the tools fit the company’s product and operating workflow.
