Cooley Builds GO Public on ChatGPT Work for IPO Preparation

International law firm Cooley has developed GO Public, a proprietary AI product offering built on ChatGPT Work to support initial public offering preparation. In 2025, Cooley advised on 180 deals globally with more than $51.5 billion in deal volume. The firm says the offering is intended to help lawyers identify issues earlier, focus expertise and help clients move towards market more quickly.
IPO work requires the synthesis and analysis of extensive information, with thousands of tasks continuing throughout a transaction. GO Public uses an agentic harness to analyse that information and produce a tailored starting point for lawyer review and validation rather than replacing professional judgment.
A client-led starting point for IPO work
Before GO Public, Cooley teams often began with a precedent from a comparable company and adapted it to the client’s circumstances. The new workflow instead brings together information supplied by the client, relevant public sources and carefully curated precedents. The result is designed as an initial, client-specific work product for lawyers to assess.
Cooley said its legal engineers, innovation counsel and practitioners worked together to translate capital-markets experience into the system. The agentic harness sets out which steps agents can perform automatically, where lawyers must review or validate outputs, and how the work is assembled. Curated information from previous analyses supplies what Chief Innovation Officer David Wang describes as “baked-in know-how.”
Controls keep lawyers responsible for outcomes
The firm presents the workflow as a way to bring intelligence to information that had previously required manual sorting. David Wang said that completing this first cut allows human effort and expertise to be concentrated on the highest-value areas. The approach places the system within a controlled process, with lawyer review built into the stages where validation is required.
Dave Peinsipp, partner and co-chair of Cooley’s global capital markets group, said the aim is not simply to complete identical work faster. He described it as reaching a strong starting point sooner, allowing lawyers to apply judgment, challenge disclosures and think strategically about issues material to the company.
Management teams may also benefit because IPO preparation competes with the work of operating fast-moving businesses. Cooley says ChatGPT Work can help move through intensive preparation more quickly, leaving management to focus on the business, its story and decisions that will shape the offering.
A broader capital-markets application
Cooley says the product is designed to help attorneys consider more information while preserving the accountability and professional obligations required for legally defensible client outcomes. The deployment comes as ChatGPT Work expands in enterprise settings: ChatGPT Work's 20 million users highlights its 20 million users, while Cooley applies the product within a legal workflow with defined review points.
Peinsipp described GO Public as a vision for the future of capital-markets practice and said Cooley sees potential beyond IPOs in capital-markets transactions more broadly. For businesses preparing complex, high-stakes work, the practical implication is to define automated steps and mandatory expert validation before using AI to redirect scarce attention towards decisions only experienced people can make.
