Google brings conversational Gemini voice features to Gmail, Docs and Keep
Google has launched three conversational AI features—Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live—for Gmail, Google Docs and Google Keep. The Gemini-powered tools let users ask questions, dictate requests and work with information through natural-language conversations. They are available in English on iOS and Android, with different access levels across Google AI subscription plans.
Gmail Live is available to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra customers. Docs Live and Keep Live are available to Google AI Pro and Ultra users. Google said the features will be rolled out to Workspace Business customers soon.
Voice interaction across productivity apps
In Gmail, users can speak to a Gemini assistant about the contents of their inbox rather than typing terms into the search box. The interface displays a live transcript during the conversation, giving users a written record of the exchange as they ask questions.
Docs Live lets a user describe what they want to write, after which the assistant can help produce a first draft. Google says the feature can draw on information from Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web when creating those drafts. This extends the interaction beyond dictation to a conversational drafting workflow across connected Google services.
Keep Live is positioned as a voice-first scratchpad. Users can capture notes without typing and request structured material such as recipes or lists. Google’s example is asking for the ingredients needed to make shakshouka.
Part of Google’s broader speech initiative
The release follows a sequence of voice-related additions across Google products. The company added cross-app dictation to its Mac app in April. Pixel 11 phones received Rambler, a Gemini-powered dictation tool designed to remove filler words from spoken input, last month. In August, Google introduced Gemini 3.5 Transcribe for speech-to-text use cases.
The Gmail element also develops the inbox-assistant direction set out by Google introduces Gmail Live voice assistant, while the new launch places comparable conversational controls in document drafting and note-taking. The products retain distinct subscription requirements, so availability is not uniform across all Google AI customers.
What businesses should assess
Organizations planning to use the features should first map their current Google AI plan to the access rules: Gmail Live supports Plus, Pro and Ultra, whereas Docs Live and Keep Live require Pro or Ultra. They can then identify workflows where spoken inbox queries, dictated notes or assisted first drafts fit their existing use of Gmail, Docs, Drive and Chat. Workspace Business teams will need to wait for Google’s stated forthcoming rollout before applying the same assessment in that environment.
