Index Ventures secures $2 billion for seed, venture and growth investing

On July 31, 2026, Index Ventures announced $2 billion in fresh capital across three funds. The firm secured $400 million for seed investments, $900 million for its venture fund and another $700 million for the $1.5 billion growth vehicle raised in 2024. It now has $3.5 billion available to deploy.
Why the allocation matters
The structure gives Index substantial capacity from company formation through later-stage expansion. It also reflects a measured approach to fund size: unlike several venture firms that have rapidly enlarged their pools, the 30-year-old investor has avoided a dramatic increase.
The new venture fund is only moderately larger than its $800 million predecessor. Yet the fundraising comes just two years after Index collected $2.3 billion across two vehicles, demonstrating that proven returns can still unlock institutional capital in a selective market.
The move sits alongside Benchmark’s $2 billion shift into growth and AI, another sign that established venture firms are balancing early-stage access with larger reserves for growth companies and capital-intensive AI businesses.
Wiz, Figma and the AI portfolio
Recent outcomes strengthen Index’s case. Wiz completed its $32 billion sale to Alphabet earlier in 2026. Index invested at the seed stage and became the cybersecurity company’s largest external shareholder with a 12% stake, which Reuters estimated could be worth about $3.8 billion.
Index was also an early investor in Figma, which went public in 2025. Its current AI portfolio includes robotics company Physical Intelligence, inference platform Fireworks AI and Anthropic. Index backed Anthropic when the model developer raised capital at a $183 billion valuation in September 2025.
For business leaders, the practical signal is not simply that more venture money is available. Capital is concentrating around investors and companies that can show durable technical advantages, credible scaling economics and a clear path from early adoption to a valuable strategic outcome.
