Intero Biosystems wins TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 Startup Battlefield

Intero Biosystems has won the $100,000 equity-free prize and Disrupt Cup in TechCrunch Disrupt 2026’s Startup Battlefield competition. Apate was named runner-up after a contest that drew thousands of applications, selected 200 startups and reduced the field to 20 finalists before TechCrunch’s editorial team chose five companies for the final round.

The selected startups pitched and demonstrated their products live during three days of programming. The result placed Intero Biosystems at the top of a cohort spanning enterprise software, artificial intelligence, health, sustainability, consumer products and built-world technology.

A three-stage competition

Startup Battlefield 200 is designed as more than a single final presentation. The 200 chosen companies were able to exhibit and pitch, while the top 20 finalists progressed toward the final selection. Five companies then competed for the cash prize, which does not require founders to give up equity, and the Disrupt Cup.

The competition’s closing stage followed the event format outlined in the Startup Battlefield final at Disrupt 2026 as founders moved from broader exposure to the final Startup Battlefield decision. For participating companies, the setting also brought together investors, potential customers and other founders.

TechCrunch described relationship-building as a central part of the programme, alongside the public pitches. That makes the event relevant not only to the winner but also to companies using demonstrations and meetings to develop commercial and peer connections.

Showcase and community recognitions

TechCrunch named several Showcase Stage standouts by industry group. Lola Vision Systems won in Built World for its full-stack AI platform, which combines sensor fusion, secure communications and real-time inference on current hardware, with purpose-built silicon planned for the future.

Krokos Bio was recognised in Sustainability for growing valuable natural ingredients, beginning with saffron. In Enterprise, Rein Security was selected for a security layer aimed at custom-built enterprise agents, while Lumai was recognised as an optical-computing company addressing scalable AI for inference.

Uhura Bionics received the Health recognition for its bionic larynx for singing, laughing and translating emotions. Maka won in Consumer for AI-powered developmentally curated shows intended for parents and children.

Legali AI received Best Booth for its trauma-informed AI legal companion and ecosystem, focused on the middle class, AI-native firms and women who have faced abuse. TechCrunch also awarded the Spirit of Disrupt honour to Ardook Data founder and CEO Shogher Atanesyan, citing her support for founders and student volunteers at the event.

What founders can take from the result

The awards show that a startup event can reward both a final pitch and sustained participation across demonstrations, exhibits and founder collaboration. For businesses evaluating similar opportunities, the practical implication is to prepare a clear product demonstration and a plan for investor, customer and peer conversations rather than treating the stage appearance as the only outcome.
