Apple adds Siri memory and security fixes in iOS 27.2

Apple releases iOS 27.2 for iPhone and iPad
Apple has released iOS 27.2 for iPhones and iPads, expanding Siri AI with five additional beta languages, memory capabilities and access to selected personal context. The update also includes more than 160 security fixes, while many of those fixes have been backported to iOS 26.
Siri AI can now be used in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in beta. Apple says the assistant can remember details from prior conversations and use them when responding. Users can specify which apps should be excluded from Siri AI memory.
The rollout extends the consumer beta programme described by the public iOS 27 Siri beta with persistent context becoming part of the new assistant experience. Siri can also draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemail, Safari history and Reading List, alongside its own answers and suggestions.
Security fixes reach older software versions
Apple’s release documentation lists more than 160 security fixes in iOS 27.2. The company has also backported many fixes to iOS 26, a significant step given Apple’s statement that about 80% of iPhone owners still use that older release.
One particular fix was also issued for iOS 18, first released in 2024. Apple said the vulnerability may have been exploited in an “extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals” on iOS versions before iOS 27. Apple did not identify who was responsible for the exploitation.
Foldable, calling and media additions
For iPhone Duo, iOS 27.2 adds Apple Pencil support in Notes and Preview. The release also introduces the Edge Light effect, intended to make a caller’s face more visible in video calls, as the foldable device faces display-related issues for some early buyers.
FaceTime gains Dual Capture for group calls, allowing simultaneous streaming from the front and rear cameras. Calls can also include a third-party sign-language interpreter or live captioner. Elsewhere, Messages can suggest turning a message into a Reminder item or a Calendar event, while Shared Albums gain caption editing, comments and folder-expiry reminders.
The Podcasts app now highlights new episodes from followed shows and episodes already in progress. Apple has also brought Multiview to iPhone, enabling viewers to watch up to four live sports streams in Apple TV, including MLS, Formula 1 in the US and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders during the MLB season; F1 viewers can select multiple broadcast feeds.
What organisations should do next
Organisations managing Apple devices should prioritise deployment of the available security updates across iOS 27.2, iOS 26 and iOS 18 where applicable. They should also review Siri AI memory exclusions and the data sources available to the assistant before enabling the new capabilities for employees.
