Meta broadens Muse agent with avatars, glasses and Mac tasks

Meta used its Connect event in Menlo Park to announce a broader set of capabilities for Muse, its personal AI agent launched in early September. The additions include a real-time digital avatar, integration with Meta smart glasses, computer-use functions for Mac, an email address for the agent, and new shopping and app connectors.

Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg described Muse as the centrepiece of Meta’s consumer AI plans. The agent is designed to work across a user’s devices and digital accounts, connecting to services such as email and calendars to handle everyday tasks. It is powered by Muse Spark, Meta’s multimodal model built for agentic work.

An agent with a face, voice and broader device access

Meta said users will soon be able to create a distinct digital avatar for their Muse agent and hold live video conversations with it. The feature is powered by a new model called Muse Realtime Avatar. Zuckerberg said the physical avatar used in demonstrations is named Jolly.

The company also plans to bring Muse to its smart glasses. Users will be able to activate the agent with a wake word and speak requests through the glasses. Meta said Muse could guide a personalised workout, log meals, book an appointment or help buy a product a user sees, then continue working in the background and report back when it has finished. The company said the feature should arrive in the coming months, without naming a specific date.

Meta is also bringing computer-use capabilities to Mac. Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, said Muse will be able to operate apps on a user’s desktop after tasks are delegated to it. The stated use cases range from helping to run a small business to completing queued work while the user is away from the computer.

Email and commerce become core connectors

Muse is being developed with its own email address, which Wang said will be available soon. Users will be able to add the agent to an email thread or forward messages for it to handle on their behalf. That model of delegated access gives the new features additional significance because Meta acknowledged OpenClaw influence on Muse details Meta’s acknowledgement of OpenClaw’s strong influence on Muse, while the product is expanding across accounts and devices.

Commerce is another major part of the rollout. Meta has partnerships with Stripe and Shopify, and Wang said Muse can access Shopify’s full product catalogue agentically. Meta also cited Lync, Shop Pay and additional PayPal payment support, alongside retail connections with Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart and Wayfair. Expedia is available as a connector, and Instacart is listed as coming soon.

Additional connectors include GitHub, Granola and Notion. Meta recently opened the platform for developers to build their own connectors; Wang said it received more than 1,500 applications in less than a week. For businesses, the practical implication is to define permissions, payment limits and human approval points before allowing an agent to act across email, desktop software or purchasing workflows.
