OpenAI and Google Cloud bring frontier models to Model Garden

OpenAI and Google Cloud bring frontier models to Model Garden

OpenAI and Google Cloud have announced a partnership to bring OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex agentic workflows to Google Cloud’s Model Garden. General availability is planned in the coming weeks, giving Google Cloud customers native access to the offerings within the environment where their developers and data scientists already work.

Customers will be able to purchase OpenAI frontier models through Model Garden via Google Cloud Marketplace. Enterprises with Google Cloud spend commitments will also be able to draw down those GCP commitments for the purchases, creating a defined procurement route for the new model options.

Model access within Google Cloud

The companies position the integration for complex agentic workflows at scale. OpenAI’s models and Codex will be backed by Google Cloud’s data governance capabilities and high-performance infrastructure, while teams can use them to modernize software development lifecycles and build agentic workflows.

For organizations in regulated industries, the announcement highlights control over access to sensitive data and how that data is used. The integration will pair OpenAI’s frontier models with Google Cloud’s built-in access controls and centralized data governance for demanding enterprise workloads.

Choice, procurement and agentic development

The agreement expands model choice inside Google Cloud. OpenAI models are also due to become available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent, which OpenAI says will give enterprise customers flexibility to select the model that fits a particular task and move from evaluation towards broader adoption.

Google Cloud chief executive Thomas Kurian said the company is focused on providing a broad selection of models, including OpenAI’s, so customers can select the right model for a given job with the aim of achieving optimal quality and lower costs. Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president and co-founder, said the partnership makes OpenAI’s most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building.

Position alongside other cloud routes

The Google Cloud launch follows an expanding set of enterprise distribution paths: OpenAI models and Codex in Amazon Bedrock details OpenAI’s GPT-5.5, Codex and managed-agent availability in Amazon Bedrock, while Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.

For businesses already committed to Google Cloud, the practical implication is to map prospective Codex and frontier-model workloads against access controls, governance requirements and available GCP commitments before general availability begins.
