Kaspersky: Backdoor Found in Daemon Tools Installer — Threat to Thousands of Windows Systems

Colleagues, please note: Kaspersky has discovered a backdoor in the Daemon Tools installer.

- Widespread attack: thousands of Windows machines with Daemon Tools are at risk.
- Kaspersky attributes the campaign to a Chinese-speaking group; the backdoor was used to deploy additional software on targets (retail, academia, manufacturing, government in Russia, Belarus, Thailand).
- Backdoor detected on 8 April; Disc Soft notified and an investigation is ongoing.
- The supply-chain compromise remains active — update channels may propagate the threat.

Why this matters: such attacks enable mass compromise. Verify installers and monitor antivirus alerts.
