Toronto arrests operators of SMS‑blaster that targeted thousands of devices

Colleagues, a cybersecurity alert: Toronto police have arrested three individuals on 44 charges over a large-scale fraudulent SMS campaign.

What happened: since November 2025 a device operated from a car trunk impersonated cellular towers, exploited 2G and broadcast phishing links to tens of thousands of devices.

Risks: theft of credentials and banking data, service disruption and interference with 911.

Recommendations: disable 2G on devices; Apple users should enable Lockdown Mode.
