Google sues PhaaS network Outsider over use of Gemini in smishing attacks

Colleagues, I'd like to draw attention to a cybersecurity case. Google has sued PhaaS network Outsider, alleging it used the AI agent Gemini to generate phishing pages and mass SMS (smishing).

- Outsider was sold via a Telegram bot; the package included templates, a keylogger and a dashboard.
- Google's assessment: over 100,000 victims, millions of dollars in losses, 9,000 counterfeit sites and 1.59M fake URLs.
- Google is cooperating with carriers and seeks to dismantle the network's infrastructure.

Why it matters: AI-enabled PhaaS lowers the entry barrier for fraudsters and increases attack sophistication.

How prepared are organisations to block such threats?
