INTERPOL: Phishing, Ransomware and AI Scams Surge in APAC

INTERPOL: Phishing, Ransomware and AI Scams Surge in APAC

Colleagues, note: INTERPOL reports rising cybercrime across APAC.

Phishing is the most widespread and financially damaging threat: in one third of countries there were >10,000 cases between Jan 2024 and Mar 2025; in some states cybercrime accounts for ≥30% of all crime.

Ransomware and AI/deepfake schemes are increasing (~135,000 attacks in 2024), including executive impersonations, affecting real estate, manufacturing and finance.

Organised groups are establishing centres in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and the Philippines using forced labour; estimated losses total $37 billion.

Why it matters: this threatens businesses and critical infrastructure—coordination and stronger cyber resilience are needed.

What measures do you consider priorities?
