Sony shifts PlayStation games to fully digital distribution from 2028

Friends, I’d like to share a gaming and digital distribution update.

Sony has announced that, from January 2028, it will stop releasing physical discs for new PlayStation games.

What this means:
- new releases will be available only digitally via the PlayStation Store and other retailers;
- previously released titles will remain on disc;
- according to Sony, 85% of full-game sales on PS4 and PS5 already come from digital downloads.

Sony is also closing the PlayStation Store on PS3 in certain markets, followed by a broader shutdown for PS3 and PS Vita.

This underscores a clear industry shift toward digital-first, leaving less room for collectible physical editions.
