Colleagues, cyber risk has highlighted defacement threats: U.S. Army sites targeted

Colleagues, I’d like to draw your attention to a cybersecurity incident.

Two U.S. Army websites — the Open Innovation Lab and the AI Integration Center — were defaced.

Hackers altered error pages and posted political messages, including a call for a “Free Kurdistan.”

The Army has taken the pages down and launched an investigation. At this stage, there is no indication of data theft.

This case is a reminder that even public-facing web assets, including standard error pages, can become an entry point if CMS or plugin vulnerabilities are left unaddressed.

Why it matters: securing web infrastructure is not only about the perimeter, but also about controlling common components and timely updates.
