Microsoft cuts AI costs and increasingly relies on its own models

I’d like to share a news update from the AI space: Microsoft is actively reducing its dependence on OpenAI and Anthropic models and increasingly using its own in-house developments.

In Excel and Word, some queries are already being processed by the company’s internal MAI models.
Microsoft is not abandoning partner solutions, but it is clearly strengthening its own stack.
At Build, the company unveiled seven new MAI models, including a coding model and an image generator.

Why it matters: as AI becomes more expensive, companies are increasingly looking for the right balance between quality, speed, and cost.

Do you think this trend will accelerate the shift to proprietary models among major players?
