AssuranceAmerica data breach: 6.9 million driver records and licence numbers exposed

Colleagues, I’d like to draw attention to a cybersecurity and personal data protection incident.

AssuranceAmerica has confirmed a breach affecting 6.9 million people. Attackers accessed names, contact details and driver’s licence numbers.

Policy, account, driver, vehicle and claims data were also at risk. The incident was detected on 17 March, and the investigation was completed on 15 June.

According to the company, the attack may have started through an employee, after which compromised credentials were disabled.

Why it matters: such breaches increase the risk of fraud, identity theft and document-focused attacks.
