Google SynthID helped expose AI-generated falsehood about McConnell — a key case for content trust

Friends, I want to share news from the world of AI and content verification. Google SynthID helped expose a fake image of Senator Mitch McConnell that spread widely on Reddit and X.
Snopes checked the picture and found an embedded SynthID watermark. It is invisible to ordinary users, but readable by algorithms and preserved even after screenshots.
At the same time, the system works only for images created with supported tools. Gemini has used it since 2025, and OpenAI joined in May 2026.
Why this matters: the industry now has a real tool against deepfake content, but coverage is still limited.
Do you think such labeling can become the standard for AI-generated images?
