Meta defaults to using public Instagram content for AI generation: what to check

Colleagues, I’d like to draw your attention to a cybersecurity and privacy update.

Meta has launched its new Muse Image tool: public photos, Reels and posts on Instagram may now be used by default to generate AI content.

What this means:
- public accounts can be tagged and used to create new images based on their content;
- remix notifications are not always sent;
- opt-out is available under Sharing and reuse;
- if your profile is public, it is worth checking these settings now.

Why it matters: this is another example of an opt-out approach, where data is used first and only then subject to explicit consent.
