RoguePlanet in Defender: Microsoft closes SYSTEM-access risk

Colleagues, I’d like to highlight a cybersecurity update. Microsoft has patched RoguePlanet in Defender, a vulnerability that could have elevated privileges to SYSTEM.

CVE-2026-50656 affected the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine. An attacker could exploit a race condition and execute code with maximum privileges.

The issue could be triggered whether real-time protection was enabled or disabled.

Microsoft notes that engine and signature updates are installed automatically.
