Cash App Under Pressure: Block Settles with 46 States for $45 Million

Block has agreed to pay $45 million to settle claims brought by 46 U.S. states against Cash App.

Regulators say the service failed to adequately protect users from fraud and misled them with promises of “bank-level” security.

It was also noted that accounts could be created without an SSN or date of birth, while the lack of an official support phone number pushed people toward fake scam numbers.

Earlier, CFPB had already imposed a $175 million penalty over similar concerns.

Block now commits to strengthening anti-fraud controls and launching live support.
