OpenAI, government access and the question that remains unanswered

Friends, I’d like to share an observation from the AI world and Hacker News. With the release of OpenAI’s frontier models, the key question has resurfaced: by what criteria do such models actually receive approval for public release?

Right now, the process does not look fully transparent.
- It is unclear who conducted the safety assessment.
- It is not entirely clear which requirements were mandatory.
- The government has a role, but a clear mechanism has not yet been established.

I see this as a signal for the industry: without transparent rules and independent audits, trust in releases will continue to decline.

Why it matters: AI safety cannot be built on informal agreements and personal contacts.
