Laser Attack on Tangem Wallet: A Vulnerability That Cannot Be Fixed by an Update

Colleagues, I would like to draw your attention to a cybersecurity and hardware-protection development.
Researchers at Ledger Donjon have demonstrated that a precisely targeted laser pulse can reset the passcode on a Tangem Wallet card and unlock access to the wallet.
Key points:
- the attack requires physical access to the card and laboratory equipment;
- it cannot be carried out remotely, but the vulnerability already affects all cards shipped to date;
- a firmware update cannot fix it, because Tangem cards do not support patches.
Why it matters: if a card is lost or stolen and holds a significant amount, relying on the passcode alone is no longer safe.
How do you assess the risk of such “unpatchable” vulnerabilities in hardware wallets?
