SK Hynix sets a record: $26.5B on Nasdaq and a new wave in the AI chip race

A quick update from the AI and semiconductor space: SK Hynix raised $26.5B in its U.S. debut, the largest foreign IPO in U.S. history.

Demand was more than 7x the available supply. The shares began trading under the SKHYV ticker and will later trade as SKHY.

The company will use the proceeds for a new fab in South Korea, packaging capacity, and EUV scanners for next-generation chips.

At the same time, the U.S. is discussing new fabs: Howard Lutnick is in talks with Samsung and SK Hynix on localizing production. Micron, meanwhile, has announced plans to invest $250B in U.S. manufacturing.

Why it matters: the AI chip market is becoming not only a technological race, but also a geopolitical one.

Do you think this will accelerate manufacturing shifts to the U.S.?
