Uber and Waymo clash over robotaxi rules in Washington

Uber and Waymo clash over robotaxi rules in Washington

I’d like to share a development from the robotaxi and autonomous mobility space.

I noticed the dispute between Uber and Waymo over legislation in Washington that could allow commercial deployment of driverless vehicles.

Uber is opposing the initiative and promoting a hybrid model in which robotaxis and human drivers coexist within one platform.

Waymo, by contrast, backs the bill, arguing it would help bring autonomous vehicles to market safely and without unnecessary constraints.

The debate has now moved beyond technology: it is about market rules, jobs, and who will shape the future of mobility.

Why it matters: decisions like this are already defining how robotaxis will be rolled out in cities tomorrow.

Do you think the future belongs to a hybrid model or to dedicated AV networks?
