Sanctions on VPN and cryptor seller: a signal for the cyber ecosystem

Colleagues, I’d like to draw your attention to a cybersecurity development.
The U.S. Treasury has imposed sanctions on the VPN service First VPN Service, its administrator, and a cryptor seller.
According to OFAC, these tools were used to conceal ransomware activity, attacks on companies, and data theft.
At the same time, the UK and the EU expanded sanctions against Russian cyber networks, while the FBI warned about the abuse of vulnerable routers and SNMP.
Why this matters: pressure is mounting not only on attackers, but also on the infrastructure that enables attacks to scale.
Do you think sanctions can truly reduce cyber risk?
