Google Images is getting closer to Pinterest: no longer just search, but a space for inspiration

Friends, I’d like to share a piece of news from the worlds of AI and search.

Google Images is getting a Pinterest-style redesign, shifting the focus from search to discovery and visual inspiration.

What is changing:
• a For You feed with recommendations based on interests and browsing history;
• the ability to save ideas to collections and return to them later;
• real-time feed updates;
• image generation in Search via AI Overviews and the Nano Banana model.

The rollout is gradual: first on desktop in the U.S., in English.

Why it matters: Google is not just improving image search — it is strengthening user retention within its ecosystem, from viewing to creating visual content.
