U.S. charges ‘bulletproof’ web hosts over cyberattacks

Colleagues, I’d like to draw your attention to a cybersecurity development. The U.S. Department of Justice has charged three Russian nationals and two web hosts — Media Land and ML.Cloud.
According to prosecutors, these platforms enabled DDoS attacks, phishing campaigns, and strikes against critical U.S. infrastructure.
The network was used against dozens of companies across 20+ states, generating about $62 million in criminal proceeds.
Treasury had already sanctioned these companies. Extradition is unlikely, but the case underscores the risks of “bulletproof” hosting.
Why it matters: such services underpin large-scale attacks and increase risks for business and infrastructure.
Do you think sanctions are sufficient in cases like this? #cybersecurity #infosec #security
