Google bets on clean energy for data centers

Google bets on clean energy for data centers

I’d like to share a development at the intersection of AI and energy.

Google has announced its largest-ever purchase of solar generation and energy storage. The Arkansas project will deliver 1 GW of solar capacity and 1.9 GWh of batteries.

The electricity will feed the grid and help offset demand from Google’s data centers. The company is also investing in the project alongside Cypress Creek Energy and is buying the full output of the first two phases.

Once all three phases are complete, it will become the largest solar facility in the United States.

Why it matters: pairing solar with batteries can provide cleaner power more reliably and help scale AI infrastructure faster.

Do you think this could become the new standard for data centers?
