San Francisco Tightens Rules for Waymo Robotaxis After Traffic Disruption

I’d like to share an update from the autonomous mobility sector.

San Francisco’s mayor has urged regulators to tighten robotaxi rules after a July Waymo incident, when vehicles came to a stop in heavy traffic and worsened the congestion.

The proposal calls for:
— rapidly clearing driverless vehicles from active lanes;
— adapting routes and operating zones in real time;
— sharing outage and immobilized-vehicle data with the city;
— demonstrating readiness for large crowds and traffic surges.

In my view, this is an important signal for the entire industry: autonomous transport must be prepared not only for routine trips, but also for atypical scenarios.
