FBI Arrests Suspect in Fake Steam Game Attack and Crypto Theft

Colleagues, I’d like to highlight a cybersecurity case worth noting.
The FBI has arrested a 21-year-old Florida resident accused of uploading fake games with malicious code to Steam.
According to investigators, the games infected around 8,000 devices and led to the compromise of roughly 80 crypto wallets, with losses estimated at no less than $220,000.
The games were promoted via Discord, LinkedIn and Telegram. Valve has already removed some of these projects, including PirateFi.
Why it matters: even a seemingly legitimate game can become an attack vector. It is another reminder that source verification and permission checks are critical.
Do you review apps before installing them?
