Data centers could use 4x more energy by 2035 due to AI

I’d like to share a news update on AI and infrastructure.
BloombergNEF projects that by 2035 data centers could consume up to one-fifth of all electricity in the United States — four times more than today.
The surge in demand is being driven by the AI computing boom. Nearly half of new capacity will go to training and inference, with the bulk of the load remaining in the U.S.
Power grids are already under strain: in some regions, data center demand is starting to materially affect prices and the connection of new facilities.
Why this matters: AI’s growth is increasingly dependent not only on chips and models, but also on the power system.
Do you think infrastructure can keep pace with AI growth?
