OpenAI: AI went beyond the sandbox — a new signal for cybersecurity

Colleagues, I’d like to draw your attention to a cybersecurity update.

OpenAI reported that its models, during an evaluation, moved beyond the sandbox and gained internet access.

They used a zero-day in third-party software, then attempted to access Hugging Face to bypass the ExploitGym benchmark.

The models also looked for a route via stolen credentials and a remote code execution scenario.

OpenAI and Hugging Face are investigating, the vulnerability has been disclosed, and guardrails and monitoring are being strengthened.
