How AI is expanding the boundaries of work tasks

Friends, I’d like to share a recent update from the OpenAI ecosystem and on AI at work.

OpenAI Economic Research has shown that AI is changing not only speed, but also the very scope of tasks.

• In an analysis of more than 800,000 ChatGPT messages, 16.8% of work-related requests and 43.5% of industry-related requests involved tasks from another profession.
• The overlap is most common across marketing, engineering, design, HR, and legal.
• The effect is especially visible in small businesses, where AI helps take on tasks that would typically be handled by other departments.

Why this matters: AI is becoming more than a tool for automation — it is a way to expand an employee’s role and reconfigure team processes.
