TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 opens with 10,000 attendees in San Francisco

TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 has opened at Moscone West in San Francisco, gathering more than 10,000 startup founders, investors and technology leaders. Day 1 combines the Expo Hall, Startup Battlefield competition, six industry stages, breakout sessions, roundtables and networking programmes.

More than 300 startups are exhibiting in the Expo Hall, which is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Registration runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Level 1 lobby. Attendees receive a scannable badge using Klik technology to exchange contact information, with contacts retained through the event app after the conference.

Competition and startup discovery

Startup Battlefield remains a central attraction. TechCrunch selected 20 early-stage companies from thousands of applicants to pitch before venture capital judges. The winner will receive a $100,000 equity-free prize and the Disrupt Cup.

Fast-pitch programming also highlights Startup Battlefield 200 companies in built-world and sustainability categories. The companies address areas including real estate, construction, smart cities, infrastructure, renewable energy, carbon capture, circular-economy platforms, sustainable agriculture and clean water.

The conference’s networking design is relevant to the meeting activity described in TechCrunch Disrupt investor meeting programme, where founder-investor introductions are a core part of the event format. Alongside scheduled meetings, the Networking Lounge and Deal Flow Cafe offer designated places for conversations between founders and investors.

AI, finance and infrastructure on the agenda

The Day 1 programme features more than 200 sessions across the full event agenda. On the Disrupt Stage, sessions address space, physical AI, energy, manufacturing and the question of whether AI can continue to scale. Speakers include representatives from Rivian, Cerebras Systems and Science Corporation.

The Builders Stage focuses on the operating decisions behind growing technology companies. Topics include agentic AI, AI talent, product-market-fit warning signs, product choices at scale, hiring and finance. Participants include executives and investors from Google Cloud, Webflow, Airbyte, Qualcomm Technologies, Runware, Superhuman and Gusto.

Other sessions examine financial services, trust and verification, AI infrastructure, electricity systems and fusion. The Smart Systems programme includes discussions involving Twilio, Helion, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Bloom Energy and Weave Grid. Breakout sessions add topics such as data context for AI, quantum technology, trusted AI and the inference economy.

Practical implication for attendees

For businesses attending Disrupt, the practical task is to match a focused agenda to specific commercial objectives: identify relevant exhibitors and sessions, pre-register for roundtables through the event app, and capture contact details while the discussions are fresh. The event’s mix of pitches, technical sessions and structured networking makes disciplined follow-up essential for turning conversations into useful business relationships.
