YouTube introduces AI tools for testing videos and live formats

YouTube introduces AI tools for testing videos and live formats

YouTube has unveiled a new set of creator tools centred on AI-assisted testing, video packaging and live programming. The update includes Ask Studio, Dynamic Thumbnails, AI product auto-tagging and expanded live features; YouTube also plans to pilot real-time auto-dubbing for live video early next year.

The company said creators will be able to test three different cuts of Shorts from 2027. YouTube already supports A/B testing for titles and thumbnails, while its new Dynamic Thumbnails option lets a creator upload several images and allows the platform to decide which one to show a viewer most likely to be interested.

Ask Studio extends AI assistance to drafts and catalogues

Ask Studio lets creators share draft videos with AI for personalised feedback based on their earlier content and audience comments. It can propose alternative titles and thumbnail options, analyse channel analytics to explain video performance, and offer suggestions intended to improve metrics. The feature is also expanding to YouTube mobile apps.

Creators can apply the new optimisation tools to existing videos as well. With permission, Ask Studio can monitor thumbnail performance autonomously and create tests intended to improve older uploads. The approach places YouTube alongside services such as Meta AI creator recommendations that use creator history and performance signals to generate tailored recommendations.

Creators remain wary of AI assistance when an inaccurate output could damage their credibility. YouTube’s tools will therefore depend on whether their recommendations are sufficiently accurate for creators to use them in public-facing publishing decisions.

Commerce and live-video additions

YouTube will use AI to auto-tag products, a move it says can help creators earn through affiliate programmes. It is also expanding its Amazon affiliate programme beyond the United States.

For live video, the platform is introducing a “live showdown” feature for co-hosted streams and a “live creator matchmaking” function that can pair creators who are currently streaming. YouTube Live product manager Barbara MacDonald said co-hosts can run head-to-head matchups in which chats, gifts and Super Chats move a creator’s on-screen score in real time.

The company also reported that more than half of its top 100 creators have living-room viewing as their most watched interface. In the first half of 2026, microdramas on YouTube exceeded 6.5 billion views, with watch time up 50% year over year; TV views of microdrama content rose 90% year over year.

What the update means for video teams

For businesses and creator teams, the practical implication is to treat YouTube’s new AI functions as controlled testing tools: review suggested titles, thumbnails and product tags, measure results against channel goals, and retain human approval where brand credibility is at stake.
