Ternus Signals Major Apple Launch in First Memo as CEO

John Ternus, Apple’s new chief executive, has told employees that the company has a “huge launch next week” ahead of its annual iPhone event on September 9. Ternus has succeeded Tim Cook, who led Apple for 15 years, and the memo is his first reported message to staff as CEO.

Bloomberg reported that Ternus described the forthcoming launch as “phenomenal” and said he was equally excited by products already in development and products Apple has yet to imagine. The comments arrive as the company prepares for an event that is rumoured to include its first foldable iPhone.

Ternus formerly served as Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. His move to the top job places a product and hardware executive at the helm immediately before one of Apple’s most closely watched annual launches.

Beyond the September event, Apple is rumoured to be working on camera-equipped AirPods, smart glasses and a touchscreen laptop. These products have not been announced, and Ternus’s memo did not confirm a launch schedule for them.
