BAG Ventures raises $11.3M for enterprise-focused AI startups

BAG Ventures, founded by former Google vice president Bontia Stewart and former CapitalG partner Jackson Georges Jr., has closed an $11.3 million fund for early-stage artificial intelligence startups. The firm has already invested in 10 companies, including software company SXD, AI travel agent BizTrip and agentic reasoning platform Nomadic.

The fund will make checks of $100,000 to $500,000 and aims to deploy its remaining capital over the next two years. BAG Ventures is targeting companies in AI infrastructure, compute, physical and edge AI, security, governance and vertical SaaS.

From AI experimentation to paid outcomes

Georges argues that enterprise AI purchasing is moving out of an “experimental sandbox” phase. In his view, buyers are concentrating on unit economics and are less willing to pay for open-ended chatbot deployments.

The investment thesis favours deterministic products that integrate deeply with legacy workflows and perform work rather than simply assist a user. Georges cited automated code reviews and legal-document parsing as examples of the kind of execution-oriented use cases enterprises may buy.

He also expects purchasing models to change from per-user SaaS seats toward completed jobs and outcomes driven by multi-agent workflows. For BAG Ventures, that makes a clear route to monetisation and practical deployment central screening criteria, not later-stage refinements.

What BAG looks for in founders

The firm wants core technical teams whose members have worked together before, have a minimum viable product and at least one partner. Georges said BAG also looks for a “very clear path to monetization within 24 hours.”

Its approach is shaped by the growing product activity of frontier AI labs. A startup with sound technology may still struggle if its offering is only a thin wrapper around a frontier-model API, Georges said. BAG therefore seeks products embedded in enterprise processes that capture proprietary, non-scrapable data and retain the customer relationship at the intent layer.

Regulated deployments and agent security

BAG is also examining companies selling into regulated sectors, where data privacy requirements can demand specialised products. Georges pointed to securing internal data flows, acceptable-use guardrails and continuous automated red-teaming; he said portfolio company Defendremate is already applying this approach.

Another area is Identity and Access Management for non-human workers such as AI agents. Georges sees a need for zero-trust architecture and orchestration rails designed specifically for agentic systems.

Stewart and Georges position BAG's operator network as a route to potential customers and hands-on go-to-market advice. Its limited partners include Google and operators from Nvidia, Amazon and Snowflake, among more than 150 limited partners. For businesses evaluating AI vendors, the implication is to favour proposals that tie workflow integration, data controls and measurable job completion to a defined commercial model.
