Ford sets $28,350 starting price for Fathom electric pickup
Ford has named its next-generation electric pickup Fathom and set a starting price of $28,350 before destination and delivery charges. The fee brings the entry price to $29,945. Ford plans to reveal the five-seat truck in early 2027, begin taking pre-orders at that point and start deliveries in fall 2027.
Fathom will be Ford’s first vehicle on the new Universal EV Platform, or UEV. The company describes the platform as the basis for multiple future EVs and says it is paired with a new assembly-line process designed to cut costs. Production is planned for Louisville, Kentucky.
A lower-priced electric truck built on a new platform
The launch is a significant EV bet for Ford after the F-150 Lightning, and follows the limited-run Ranger EV of the late 1990s. Ford has scaled back ambitions for electric vehicles, while Fathom is intended to place an electric pickup just below the $30,000 threshold the company had targeted since speaking more openly about the project in 2025.
The base price covers a standard-range lithium iron phosphate battery pack. Ford has not yet provided an estimated driving range. The company says Fathom and other UEV models were designed from the ground up for electric powertrains, a design approach intended to reduce compromises in vehicle range, efficiency and packaging.
Electric pickups have faced a difficult US market. Ford’s F-150 Lightning recorded a little more than 10,000 units in its best quarter, while Tesla’s Cybertruck reached a higher peak before declining. Ford is therefore entering a limited lower-priced EV pickup field that includes the Slate pickup, alongside non-truck EVs such as the Chevrolet Bolt.
Software, cabin features and driver assistance
Ford says the Fathom will offer more interior space than a Toyota RAV4 and will feature a large high-resolution touchscreen and a digital car key. The truck will support bidirectional power, like the F-150 Lightning and hybrid F-150, allowing it to provide power externally.
Its infotainment system will include Ford’s Apple Maps integration in new EVs as part of Ford’s in-car software approach, alongside Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Ford says the truck will not support Apple’s next-generation CarPlay Ultra.
Every Fathom will be BlueCruise-capable, with the required technology integrated, although Ford indicates customers will probably pay extra to enable its hands-free advanced driver-assistance system. Ford also describes a more powerful future BlueCruise version intended to support supervised driving from starting point to destination, while eyes-off driving is expected in 2028.

Ford has not disclosed key operating specifications, including single-charge range, and additional details are expected at the early-2027 reveal. Businesses considering the Fathom should treat the announced price as an entry point and assess final battery, charging, payload, range and BlueCruise enablement details before making fleet or procurement decisions.
