General Intuition discusses funding round at $6 billion valuation

New York-based General Intuition is in discussions to raise fresh funding at a $6 billion pre-money valuation, with prospective new investors including Valor Equity Partners, Point72 Ventures and Seven Seven Six. Existing investors Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst are also participating, sources familiar with the matter said.

The proposed financing comes only weeks after the company raised $320 million at a $2.3 billion valuation. The round is still being finalised, and a person close to the transaction said it is oversubscribed as General Intuition continues to receive investor interest.

Capital for a model aimed at physical AI

General Intuition is developing a foundation model intended to train generalized AI agents that can move through space and time. The company plans to use the new capital to improve its general model with a particular emphasis on robotic embodiments.

That work is expected to require increased spending on compute infrastructure and more hiring. General Intuition has a partnership with CoreWeave, the cloud infrastructure provider, as it expands the resources behind its model development.

The company was spun out in October by chief executive Pim de Witte from Medal, the video-game clip-sharing platform. Its starting dataset includes hundreds of millions of hours of gameplay and action labels, records of the buttons players pressed and the timing of those actions.

Why gameplay data is central to the approach

General Intuition’s early financing, documented in General Intuition's $320 million gameplay-data round as a $320 million round at a $2.3 billion valuation, was tied to its use of gameplay data to train agents for the real world. The current discussions indicate that investors are continuing to support that approach as the company turns more directly towards robotics.

Vinod Khosla has said that action labels may be important to the emergence of intuition: the capacity for a model to generalize across tasks for which it was not explicitly trained. The company’s use of annotated actions distinguishes this training material from video alone, because the dataset records both an observed environment and a player’s input within it.

Investor interest and execution requirements

Valor Equity Partners is known for backing SpaceX. Its potential investment in General Intuition would be the fund’s first investment in an AI lab since SpaceX, if confirmed. TechCrunch sought confirmation of Valor’s participation, while the financing remained under discussion.

The reported valuation and the pace of fundraising highlight investor interest in AI systems designed for physical settings. For businesses evaluating this area, the practical implication is to examine the availability of action-labelled data, compute infrastructure and specialist talent alongside the stated robotics objective, because General Intuition’s planned use of capital is centered on those operational requirements.
