Google AI Edge Foresight brings offline meeting notes to Macs

Google has released Google AI Edge Foresight, a Mac application for capturing and organizing meeting notes with on-device AI. The tool is positioned alongside products such as Granola and can operate entirely offline on Apple Silicon, using the 740-million-parameter EmbeddingGemma 2 model.

The app records notes across applications and is also intended for in-person meetings. Its layout places manual shorthand notes beside AI-generated notes, allowing users to continue taking their own notes while the meeting is transcribed.

Local processing and meeting workflows

Google says AI Edge Foresight is optimized for Apple Silicon and can work without an internet connection. That gives users access to meeting material while travelling or in locations where connectivity is unavailable.

Alongside generated notes, users can open a meeting transcript or ask questions through an assistant powered by Gemma 4. The product therefore combines transcription, note drafting and retrieval in a single desktop workflow rather than limiting users to a post-meeting summary.

The release extends Google's work on AI-assisted voice workflows, as Google Gemini voice functions in Gmail, Docs and Keep illustrates Google's integration of Gemini voice functions into Gmail, Docs and Keep.

Knowledge base support

AI Edge Foresight also accepts PDFs, Google Docs, Microsoft Office files, plain-text files, Markdown and web bookmarks. These materials can be assembled into a knowledge base alongside meeting notes.

When a discussion raises a point connected to that stored material, the app can answer questions in real time using the meeting notes and uploaded documents. Google has not presented the app as a broadly available consumer meeting product; the earlier local-model dictation tool from the same team was experimental and did not reach mainstream use.

A crowded note-taking market

AI meeting note-taking remains a competitive category. Wispr and Calendly have recently introduced their own note-taking tools, while Superhuman, formerly Grammarly, acquired YC-backed Fathom last month.

For businesses, the practical question is whether offline operation on Apple Silicon, supported file formats and the ability to query a local knowledge base fit their meeting and document-handling processes before introducing the application into day-to-day workflows.
