OpenAI Academy expands with role-based AI training courses
OpenAI has expanded OpenAI Academy with new learning paths for developers, business leaders, educators and college students. The additions join the existing Apply AI at Work pathway, and learners who pass a course assessment can earn an OpenAI Academy course badge.
The company says the expanded portfolio is intended to help people apply AI safely and effectively in the work in front of them, whether they are improving a workflow, building a product, leading a team or teaching a class. Courses are based on using AI to learn AI: participants practise on real tasks, provide instructions and context, then review results as they work.
Paths for work, development and education
Apply AI at Work remains the path for knowledge workers. It begins with clear instructions, relevant context and response review, then moves toward reusable workflows. Learners also practise directing larger assignments with agents, choosing what to delegate and where checkpoints and human review are needed. Its starting point is reflected in AI foundations, agents and repeatable processes on AI foundations, agents and repeatable processes, while the expanded catalogue assigns more focused material to other roles.
Build with AI is aimed at developers and technical teams using Codex or building products with the OpenAI API. Its courses address planning and implementing changes through the software development lifecycle while maintaining review and quality control. For API teams, the curriculum covers solution design, evaluations, agents, retrieval of relevant information and operating AI systems in production.
OpenAI positions these developer courses as support for moving from experimentation to useful and reliable AI systems. The material does not remove responsibility for quality; it explicitly places review and control alongside implementation work.
Leadership, teaching and deployment
The AI Leadership course forms part of the Lead AI Adoption pathway. It is designed for people responsible for strategy, adoption and change management, and covers assessing potential business value, linking initiatives to priorities, defining ownership and governance, and creating an initial AI strategy and adoption roadmap.
Two other courses extend the offering to education. AI for Educators asks participants to use materials they are permitted to use when planning classes, designing activities or assessments, or adapting communications. They review ChatGPT responses against learning objectives, source materials and requirements, with the educator deciding what enters teaching.
AI for College Students focuses on academic and career tasks, including study plans, group-project roles, draft review against assignment requirements, and preparation for applications or interviews. The course emphasizes bringing appropriate materials into ChatGPT, improving the work and making the final decision.

Organizations can combine paths according to their needs: Apply AI at Work for onboarding, Build with AI for technical teams and AI Leadership for executive, Champion or transformation programs. Education institutions can combine AI Foundations with the educator and student courses.
