Persona raises $10 million for privacy-focused wearable AI agent

Persona, a new AI agent startup founded by Cal AI co-founder Zach Yadegari, has raised $10 million ahead of the planned December release of a $179 wearable band. Vine Ventures led the financing, with participation from Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global.

The company has launched a free beta that lets users interact with its assistant through iMessage. Yadegari told TechCrunch that the service has attracted a few thousand beta users, while preorders for the band have produced five figures in revenue. Persona is being built with another co-founder whose identity has not yet been announced.

From Cal AI to a new consumer agent

Yadegari previously co-founded calorie-tracking app Cal AI. MyFitnessPal acquired Cal AI in March for an undisclosed amount after the newer app moved ahead of the established calorie app in app-store rankings. MyFitnessPal said at the time that Cal AI had reached more than $30 million in annual revenue in less than two years.

Yadegari and his co-founders initially joined MyFitnessPal and continued developing Cal AI. He left the company in June and began work on Persona. The assistant is intended to handle tasks including ordering food or rides, taking notes, booking travel, answering questions and managing email.

Wearable controls and cloud-based processing

Persona positions the band as a deliberate alternative to always-on, ambient AI wearables. A user can activate the assistant with a button or configure it to respond to a flick of the wrist. The company compares the broader product category with Bee, the wearable AI device acquired by Amazon in 2025, while stressing that its own device does not continuously listen or record.

The AI model does not run on the band, and user data is not stored on the hardware. Instead, data is sent to Persona’s cloud, where the model operates. Persona says it encrypts data both in transit and at rest, gives users the ability to delete their data, and does not sell conversations to advertisers or data brokers.

Commerce safeguards and advertising model

Persona says it is adding protections against phishing and prompt-injection attempts, two risks associated with agentic systems. The agent cannot access a user’s credit-card details, Yadegari said. Purchases require user approval and are processed by external providers such as Stripe Link, Stripe’s wallet designed for agent use.

The company nevertheless expects advertising to support its business model. During shopping research, sponsored products may appear alongside recommendations. Yadegari says the agent will not know which listings are sponsored and will rank items against a user’s stated preferences.

For businesses assessing consumer AI agents, Persona’s launch highlights practical questions that go beyond task automation: how users invoke the service, where data is processed, how it can be removed, and when a human must explicitly approve a transaction.
