Waymo Begins Airport Robotaxi Service in Las Vegas

Waymo Begins Airport Robotaxi Service in Las Vegas

Waymo has started carrying customers to and from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, using dedicated autonomous vehicle zones at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. The airport is the sixth major airport served by Waymo, which only began offering public rides in Las Vegas in September.

The service will initially be available to only a small number of riders before expanding to all customers. Waymo said its Las Vegas service area already covers 24 square miles of the city.

A sixth airport for Waymo

Harry Reid International joins Phoenix Sky Harbor, Nashville International, San Antonio International, San Francisco International and San José International airports in Waymo’s airport network. The Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 zones create designated locations for airport pickups and dropoffs rather than leaving those movements to ordinary curbside arrangements.

Las Vegas is an increasingly active market for autonomous ride services. The company’s move from a September public launch to airport access adds a major destination to the area it already serves. That progression follows Waymo’s Las Vegas public robotaxi launch and extends the Las Vegas robotaxi service to one of the city’s most important transport hubs.

Competition in the Las Vegas robotaxi market

Waymo is not the only autonomous vehicle operator at the airport. Amazon-owned Zoox already offers rides there. The city is also set to receive more robotaxis after Nevada state regulators approved permits in August that will allow Tesla and Uber to put thousands of autonomous vehicles on Las Vegas streets over the next year.

The initial rider limit means airport availability should not yet be treated as universal access. It also leaves practical details such as eligibility and the pace of broader rollout central to whether travelers can use the service consistently.

What airport access changes for businesses

Airport trips are a distinct test for autonomous ride services because passengers need reliable connections between terminals and destinations. Dedicated zones at both listed terminals establish a defined handoff point for Waymo’s vehicles, while the phased opening keeps access controlled at launch.

Businesses arranging travel in Las Vegas should confirm which terminal zones are available, whether eligible riders can request the service, and whether the 24-square-mile operating area covers their destination before including Waymo in an airport ground-transport plan.
