Google Maps expands Ask Maps with ordering, hotel and ticket tools

Google Maps expands Ask Maps with ordering, hotel and ticket tools

Google has announced new agentic capabilities for Ask Maps in Google Maps, enabling users in the United States to order food, search and compare hotels, and find event tickets. The company is also adding Personal Intelligence, which can tailor replies using a user’s Gmail and Google Calendar information, alongside conversation memory and a live transit widget.

The update moves Ask Maps beyond route planning toward assistance with completing local and travel-related tasks. Food ordering, hotel search and ticket discovery are rolling out in the US. Personal Intelligence and the live transit widget are rolling out in every market where Ask Maps is available.

From local search to transaction hand-offs

For food requests, a user can ask Ask Maps for a specific meal or drink nearby. The tool identifies relevant restaurants; after the user selects one, the “Order online” option can add items to a cart through supported services including Square, Toast and Uber Eats. The customer can add further items and completes payment on the supported platform.

Ask Maps can also process detailed hotel queries, such as a stay near a conference with a specified budget, rating, atmosphere and nearby amenities. It compares prices and checks availability before presenting options. Booking is not completed in Maps: users click through to a partner website to reserve the selected stay.

For live entertainment, the feature can return nearby comedy shows or music events and provide links for buying tickets. This follows Google’s broader effort to have AI systems initiate tasks in connected services, as AI Mode task execution in connected applications shows how AI Mode can launch tasks in applications directly from Search.

Personal context remains opt-in

Personal Intelligence can answer questions involving upcoming flights, dinner reservations and hotels by drawing on a user’s email and calendar data. Google says the capability is off by default. It may, for example, help answer when a user will land in Vancouver or suggest activities and places to eat near a hotel.

Ask Maps will also retain prior conversations, allowing a user to return to recommendations for a Seattle trip without restarting the exchange. The new live transit widget is intended to keep users informed of delays and changing conditions in real time.

What businesses should review

Restaurants, hotels and event operators should review the accuracy of their Maps presence and the information carried by connected ordering, booking and ticketing partners. As Ask Maps becomes another route from a natural-language request to a transaction hand-off, current menus, availability, locations and event details become practical business inputs.
